West HoustonCurrents April - May Update Spring is in the air! I hope everyone is getting some fishing in or at least preparing to. Banquet season is upon us. The annual West Houston Crawfish boil is right around the corner. This marks a special year as it is our 25th anniversary. This year the banquet will be on Thursday, May 5th at the Houston Farm and Ranch Club. Last year we tried a new caterer and got a fantastic response from the crowd so we would like to welcome back Papa Gator’s this year. We have already talked with them regarding the serving line issue last year and they assure us things will be better this year. If you are interested in donating, sponsoring, or underwriting contact our Banquet Chairman, Joe Perez at 832-279-4794. If looking for tickets contact Joe Perez or Kim Vollentine at 713-626-4222, for table information contact Kim Vollentine or Ron Luster at 832-922-9413. As always if you want to help or you are looking to get more involved we would love to have your participation on the board. There is no selection process involved. All are welcome.
This year we are planning on having 4 general membership events, one each quarter. We had our first quarter General Membership meeting on February 22nd where we heard from guide Tim Redden of Tightline Fishing and Hunting. Our second quarter event will be the annual banquet. Mark the dates of August 16th, and November 15th for our third and fourth quarter general membership meetings. One of the speakers we are looking at getting is Dr. Greg Stunz of the Harte Research Institute in Corpus Christi. It should be fascinating hearing about his findings from his speckled trout study.
I would like to take a brief moment to offer up a huge congratulations to our most recent past president, Brad Marsh, on his appointment to the CCA Texas executive board. Way to go, Brad! You make the West Houston chapter proud. I would also like to encourage everyone to get by Academy and check out the new line of CCA products, it’s growing all the time. I hope everyone gets to take some time and get outdoors and enjoy this great state we live in. Take a kid fishing or even a neighbor, introduce someone new to this sport we all love and show them how important it is to preserve this resource for future generations. If you have any questions or comments, let us know, we would love to hear from you.
