San Antonio

Once this year got started, it has been going full speed.  Thank goodness the weather seems to be warming up a little, hinting that Spring is right around the corner, meaning that trips to the coast and wetting a line are on all of our minds now.

We had a booth again this year at the San Antonio Boat and RV Show at the Alamo Dome at the end of January.  I would like to thank David Barrera, John Botter, Bob Lee and his friend Max for helping with the set-up and tear down.  Also, I would like to thank our booth workers Barry Williams, Joel Lamy, Keith Williams, John Botter, Bob Thomae, Brandy Giles, Jeff Garnett, Fred Deyeso, Tony Cantu, Rick Helvey, Bob Lee, Max Ford, Vernon Wentz, Joe Eaton, Bill Sommers, Grant Sommers, Beth Vacek, Diana Butler, Mike Sarosdy, and Chris Lindsay.  We had a drawing for a faux leather duffle bag with a CCA logo and a reel cleaning kit for those who joined or renewed their CCA memberships at the boat show and our winner was Jeff Garnett.  Congratulations Jeff!

Our next project was the Crab Trap Clean Up.  Capt. Camo and Capt. Gigger headed down to Port O’Connor with a crew and after a late start because of the fog, attacked the Matagorda shoreline from Josephine’s Mott to South Pass.  They came in with a total of 60 traps for the two boats.  Capt. Gigger had to stand on her toes to see over the traps on her boat while heading in with Gary and Jake Ruiz and John Curran as her crew.  Capt. Camo led the way with his crew of Dr. Allen Baribeau, Lanie Green and the handsome Chester.

Johnny Rayburg and Liz Hewitt, our Banquet chairmen have started our banquet (May 5th) committee meetings which are held every Tuesday at the Quarry Golf Club (444 E. Basse) at 6:30 pm.  The various committees are busily collecting items, planning table decorations, signing up live auction runners, talking to old and new sponsors, arranging the Live Auction, deciding on what our banquet shirt will be, selling tables and tickets and looking for those new and interesting things to make this years banquet that much better.  So far we have for our big raffle items, a Surfango (jet driven kayak), a 2010 Harley Crossbones, a 2011 21’ Shallow Sport with a 150 E-Tec, and a custom beach/fishing vehicle converted from a full sized Suburban.  Come out and join us.  This is a great way to get involved with your chapter.  You don’t want to miss our banquet; it is getting bigger and better!  If you are interested in becoming a sponsor, buying a table or tickets send me an email.  Our table/ticket form is also on our FB page as well as our CCA Texas calendar page.

Our chapter’s Facebook page is “CCA Texas, San Antonio Chapter”.  We will be posting our chapter’s activities as well as any announcements or news releases from CCA Texas and CCA National.  Check us out and become a fan!

Our first general membership meeting is in the works and will be posted on our FB page and on our web page at CCA Texas, (www.ccatexas.org).  We will be sending out a mass email as well approximately 10 days prior to the meeting.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please email or call.  I look forward to hearing from you.
