Northwest Houston

August - September Currents Northwest Houston Chapter

Our June General Meeting speaker was Forrest Vollentine who covered how best to care for your favorite fishing reels and what you should do for their annual maintenance.  After the program, he fielded member questions.

We did get a fishing report in from Jim DeClue who was the winner of a fishing trip provided by Capt. Tim Redden out of Rockport.  Tim provided the trip at our December 2010 General Membership Meeting.  Jim reports that his group had fish on the stringer within minutes of our first wade.  They fished hard and had a great day with Tim who is entertaining, informative and knows the waters.  He has excellent gear and the New Water boat was a great shallow water and wader’s boat.  Contact Tim Redden of Tightline Fishing and Hunting, tredden4@gmail.com , (281) 802-3786 to enjoy a great day on the water for your group.

The Banquet Committee is hard at work.  They are now conducting weekly meetings focused on our 2011 banquet.  The event will be held on Thursday, August 18 at Sam Houston Race Park. The doors will open at 6:00PM and the live auction will start at 8:00 PM. Tickets are available for $45 before the event and $50/person at the door. We will be selling the Bronze, Silver, and Gold tables this year. These are reserved tables for 8.  Tickets and tables can be purchased at the August General Membership meeting or by calling:

·       Susan Green - 281-469-6520

·       Blayne Eversole - 832-444-4579

We would welcome your participation on the banquet committee.  Now is an excellent time to join.  We have a great time each year putting this program together.   Please contact one of our directors to volunteer or to offer us with any suggestions or questions.  We are always glad to have you help with this great program.

The Kid Fish was a super experience once again especially since we have been unable to host it since Hurricane Ike.  We registered kids of all ages in the tournament and hauled an average of 10 fish per kid.  See the Chapter’s Facebook page for details.  Thanks to all who participated.  Also, we will accept donations at the General Membership meeting throughout the year in support for this program.

Our next General Members Meeting is August 2nd at Houston Distributing.  You can count on a entertaining speaker, our usual raffle and lots of news on the upcoming Banquet.  We look forward to seeing you there.

Our sincere thanks to both Houston Distributing and Academy.  They are active sponsors of our meetings and many events.   We are especially fortunate to have such great support.

As a reminder, we are using email for meeting announcements.  If we don’t have your e-mail address and you would like to receive our announcements, please send your e-mail address to js_declue@yahoo.com.
