Hill CountryJune - July Currents Update: Hill Country CCA Chapter Hello Everyone! It’s hard to believe the year is already half over. It seems like just last week we were all bundled up in several layers of clothing in search of those fat winter trout. Well, we survived the cold of winter, the spring winds and now it’s time for the long hot days of summer. I would like to thank everyone who attended our Annual Hill Country Chapter Saltwater Seminar in May, it was a great success with a tremendous turnout. Without a doubt, a big reason for the success was due to our speaker for the evening, Captain Jay Watkins from Rockport, TX. I think everyone that walked out the door that night felt they were a better fishermen/fisherwomen than when they arrived. I would also like to thank our vendors for the evening, ForEverLast Fishing and Hunting Products was on hand with their quality line of fishing products. We were also pleased to welcome back Creative Eyewear with their complete line of Costa Del Mar and Maui Jim Sun Glasses. The Rust Game Place was set up and was once again a big hit. We also welcomed a new vendor in the form of a very familiar face. Ankle Deep Fishing Products, which happens to be owned and operated by our past president Darrin Toney, had a booth set up with several products for sale including a few Custom Built Rods, Brown Lures, and Stinky Pants Stringers. May also brought us our 2nd Annual Jerry B. Sikes Memorial Fishing Tournament in Rockport. Members can look for a full list of results in their June newsletter. If you weren’t able to make the tournament, I must say that you surely missed out, it is a sure way to have some good family fun! We hope to see everyone at the fall tournament on September 11th in Rockport. Enough about the past, now lets get to what we have coming up. Our next General Member Meeting will be held July 20th in New Braunfels. We are excited to announce the speakers for the evening will be the awesome tag team Captain Aubrey Black and Captain Sally Moffett. With this meeting you will be getting a two for one deal on the teaching aspects of fishing. Captain Black of course is known for putting his clients on some of the largest trout that come out of the famed waters of Baffin Bay year end and year out. You will also be treated to a discussion by Captain Sally who is one of the top fly/sight fisherwomen anywhere on the gulf coast. Sally primarily fishes the waters around Rockport but has known to wonder a little further south in search of those big double digit Baffin trout. Plans are well under way for our 16th Annual Hill Country Chapter Fundraising Banquet. It will be held on August 19th this year at the New Braunfels Civic Center. If anyone would like information on purchasing tickets or donating an item for the evening please email me at the address on the bottom of the write up.
