  • Currents - June/July 2017

A huge THANKS to all our Sponsors, Chapter Members and Salty Volunteers who helped make the 38th Annual San Antonio Chapter Banquet on May 4, 2017 another record-setter in many ways! Banquet Chair Rick Neitzel and staff knocked it out of the park. Past President Johnny Rayburg, now Catering Chair, hit a grand slam with his Don Strange Catering menu. Buy your tables and tickets early next year, as there were several people turned away after another sell-out.  Steven Mafrige of the Y-Bar Ranch bought his table along with 125 others before the Early Bird deadline, and took home a Smith and Wesson M+P AR-15 for doing that.

Katy CCA Chapter member Doug Beckner and his wife came over by themselves because he heard the San Antonio Banquet was "huge fun". He went home with his wife AND the Haynie 21' Super Cat. Ian Whitney took home the Ford F150 Super-cab XLT from Jordan Ford. Dan Witters took home the Lone Star Kawasaki Mule. 200 others left with art-to-kayaks or a Surfango, or huge grills.

All went home winners, as did CCA Texas!

Save the Date of Friday, September 29 for the 2nd Annual “Hooked on Golf” Tournament. This year, after getting four weeks of dove hunting out of your system, join us at The Quarry Golf Club as we welcome the cooler days of the end of September. It was a near sell-out last year as a first time event, so mark your calendar and watch for info soon on registration here and in your emails.

To keep the juices and story-telling going through the dog days of summer, remember AND MARK YOUR CALENDARS for the new CCA Happy Hour/Liars Club that will meet on the 2nd Tuesdays of June, July and August at the Barn Door Restaurant at 6:00 pm. Owner and Chapter member Randy Stokes has extended his Happy Hour prices later for us. Send your recent pics or photo-shopped stuff to Liz Hewitt at lizhewett@qb3mfg.com, and we will spool those on the overhead. We might toss a speaker in somewhere, but this will be more about story-telling than factual recounting.

Finally, remember that is it's not about us. It's about the CCA Mission, the kids and the fish, so take a kid fishing! – Mike

  • The San Antonio Chapter of CCA was founded in 1979 as the Southwest Chapter of GCCA. From the very beginning, the San Antonio Chapter has been at the forefront of fundraising and policy making for CCA. Although located approximately 130 miles from the coast, the San Antonio Chapter consists of approximately 4,000 men, women and children who fish from Port O’Connor to Port Isabel. It is this diverse membership with ties to such a large portion of the Texas coast that has allowed the San Antonio Chapter to lead the way in CCA conservation efforts. Today, the San Antonio Chapter of CCA is the largest fundraising chapter in the nation, grossing over $1 million in our 2015 banquet. The San Antonio Chapter of CCA welcomes participation in its efforts from those interested in making positive impact on our coastal resources.
