CCA Texas comments on Coastal Texas Protection and Restoration Feasibility Study DIFR-EIS

CCA Texas recently offered comments regarding the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Draft Coastal Texas Protection and Restoration Feasibility Study – Draft Integrated Feasibility Report and Draft Environmental Impact Statement. The conservation of and access to healthy fisheries in Galveston Bay is a concern of CCA Texas. There is an overwhelming lack of analysis and detail in the Study regarding specific environmental impacts, particularly with respect to impacts of a gate system across Bolivar Roads. Without an understanding of these impacts, we cannot support the tentatively selected plan.  Click the link below to read our full statement.

Gulf Council to host public meetings on red snapper

The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council will hold three public hearings in Texas and a webinar to solicit comments on Draft Amendment 50 – State Management of Recreational Red Snapper.  The Council is currently considering state management that would provide flexibility to the Gulf states to set the recreational red snapper fishing season and potentially other management measures, somewhat similar to the 2018-2019 red snapper seasons under the exempted fishing permit.

CCA Texas Opposes Discharge Permit for Desalination Plant Near Port Aransas

CCA Texas is opposed TPDES Permit No. WQ0005253000, to authorize the discharge of water treatment wastes at a daily average flow of not to exceed 95,600,000 gallons per day into the Corpus Christi Channel. The Port of Corpus Christi Authority of Nueces County proposes to permit and/or operate a desalination facility on Harbor Island with a discharge in the Corpus Christi Channel across from Port Aransas (see application details). 2018 oyster season set to open November 1

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) has announced that the Texas oyster season will begin on November 1, 2018 and close on April 30, 2019. The following shellfish harvest areas will be closed for the season opener:

In Galveston Bay, TX-1 and TX-4. In East Matagorda Bay, TX-11 and TX-12. In Matagorda/Lavaca Bay, TX-16, TX-18 and TX-21. In San Antonio Bay, TX-26 and TX-27. Click here to view the maps of shellfish harvest areas.
