Alvin/PearlandAugust - September Currents Update: Alvin/Pearland CCA Chapter Hopefully, by the time you read this, spring will have sprung and these crazy winds will have turned into calm summer mornings. I cannot remember this much Wind lasting this long… Our board has been busily preparing for this year’s Chapter Banquet. First off, I would like to express our chapter’s appreciation to Rex Richards with The Oak Financial Group and John Ritchie of Sunbelt Valve Services for being the Title Sponsors again this year. Our Banquet will be held on Thursday June 16th at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Pearland (doors open at 6pm, dinner at 7pm). Once again, Joe’s BBQ will be providing a Steak Dinner with all the trimmings. We will be having a Live Auction, Silent Auction, and the normal Raffles. Tickets for our event are $40 and include your annual CCA Membership. Our Large Raffle Item this year is a fully rigged Hobie Mirage Outback Kayak. The winner will also receive a guided fishing trip with renowned Outdoors Writer, Angler, and Kayak Guide, Capt. Scott Null. Thanks go out to Fishing Tackle Unlimited and Capt. Scott for helping us sponsor our Kayak Raffle this year. Tickets are $20 each or 6 for $100 (only 300 will be sold). If you would like to purchase banquet or raffle tickets, donate, sponsor or showcase your product or service at our event, please call Matt Warren at 713-626-4222, or shoot us an email at AlvinPearlandCCA@yahoo.com In other news, we have had a great line-up of speakers at our General Membership Meetings this year. In February we had Capt. Steve Hillman from “Hillman’s Guide Service” talking about what’s going on in the Galveston Bay System. In March, Capt. Wayne Davis of “Hook Down Charters” shared information about fishing Port Mansfield and talked about the re-introduction of The Kelley Wigglers Line of soft plastic baits. Chuck Garrison from “Charlie’s Custom Rods” talked rod actions and applications in April, and Clint Barghi from Team Ocean Kayak talked a little kayak fishing strategy in May. Capt. James Plaag from “Silver King Adventures” will be our speaker on June 6. Special Thanks and Appreciation go out to all of these folks who take the time to share their knowledge with our chapter. If you would like to get more involved with our chapter or would like to be included in our Chapter Event E-mail List, just send an e-mail to AlvinPearlandCCA@yahoo.com. Hope to meet you at the Banquet or one of our other Chapter Events… —Rex Richards
